Aqua San Francisco

3/14/2009
After an afternoon at Westfield San Francisco center, we were looking for a dinner place. Although we come to San Francisco quite often, not to the downtown area. There are a lot of interesting, unique and fine restaurants in the city, however, since we don't dine in the city often, we were willing to spend a little more than a typical meal.
First, we called Michael Mina in St. Westin hotel. It's in the heart of Union Square, a few blocks away from Westfield. Unfortunately, the earliest slot they had was 8:45PM.
Then, we got a table at Aqua. Aqua is located in the financial district, on California street, between Front and Battery. Usually it's a nightmare to park in that area, Saturday evening wasn't bad at all, especially street parking is free after 6PM.
There were already a couple tables at 6PM, including another table with children. We were led to the back of the restaurant, to a table at the corner of the long L-shaped sofa.
Aqua is famous for its seafood. They have a three course menu for $75, or a tasting prix fixe for $130. Chef's tasting menu changes seasonally. Today, it was the citrus menu. Wine paring is $85.

On the house, grapefruit and sea urchin in orange juice, topped with caviar.

First course, grilled Maine lobster with beet, truffle and blood orange. Lobster is grilled, then chilled.

Second, Artisan Foie Gras.

Bergamot Souffle, with Earl Grey, leek and bergamot.
