A walk in the Park!

Since Josh started the swimming class on Monday, he's been coughing a lot. This morning instead of the swimming class, we decided to go for a walk. We used to take 20 minutes walk around the neighborhood when he was around 2. Especially today when he's coughing, I want to bring him for a long walk around the Lake Elizabeth in the Central Park, Fremont. Central Park and Lake Elizabeth began development in 1960. The Lake was dedicated to Fremont's Sister City, Elizabeth, Australia, on March 22, 1969. The Park is set on 450 acres with an 83-acre lake.

Usually it takes about 40 minutes to circle the lake. Today we took about one and half hour to complete the tour. We walked and stopped for different things. We sat down on the bench watched the ducks swimming in the lake together. With the sunshine, warm breeze, Josh really enjoyed the walk. I showed him ducks, birds, and geese. We talked about people use duck feather to make comforter or winter jackets. We liked to watch the mama duck and the baby ducklings playing in the the water. We even talked to a fishing person about how he once caught a big fish. Josh found two trees grew in the water, not sure how they got in there the first place! The most curious thing was about those 'ground squirrels'!

We found them in the yellow fields behind the Fremont main Library, they dig lots of holes in the fields. They are small and constantly moving around! The ground squirrel is especially renowned for its tendency to rise up on its hind legs. It does this whenever it senses nearby danger, or when it must see over tall grasses. The squirrel then curls its paws flat against its chest and sends a screeching call to warn other family members about the presence of predators.
