We were on a red-eye flight of Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. This was the first time after Cathay Pacific upgraded their seats throughout the coach cabin. The new seats were shell shaped - the benefit was that when the passenger in front of you tilted down the seat back, it would not get in your way - everything was done inside the shell. Note that the space, the legroom did not increase at all. The seat was okay at the first try, however, for a long distance flight, the cushion was way too hard. This brought discomfort to both back and butt. The in-flight entertainment was good. Even in economy class, every passenger could enjoy a personal 9” widescreen LCD screen, with over 200 movies/TV shows and countless music programs from various types. I was able to find some very interesting classical music Cds, however, because of the poor quality of the in-flight headphones, it was impossible to enjoy. By the way, your own BOSE headphones would not fit on Cathay Pacific, their plugs were 3 holes. I wondered what headphones first-class passengers got to complete their luxury experience - maybe because they had a bed, they would rather sleep.

The flight arrived in Hong Kong on time. The shuttle to hotel was smooth. By the time we finished checking in, it was around 10AM. We were on our way to Times Square, one of the HK’s biggest shopping centers. What we did not expect was the stores were closed until 11AM. So we walked and walked, watching people prepared to open their stores, mopped their floors. We were getting sleepy, we needed some coffee.
We had our breakfast at the little “agnes b. le pain grille” inside the shopping center. Agnes B. was the French brand name in clothing, fashion, accessories. I didn’t know they had sandwiches and chocolate too. Their coffee was good.
The rest of the afternoon was a long nap and walking in the streets. There were still double-deck buses, and even double-deck trolleys in Hong Kong.
First dinner in Hong Kong! Yung Kee Restaurant. Cantonese style. Famous dishes included Chinese-style pickled egg (“black egg“ as Joshua called them), roasted goose, smoked chicken, etc. Cantonese people were fond of roasted geese, this restaurant was said to have the very best. It turned out to be so-so. It's much like roasted duck. The others were traditional Cantonese dishes.
