Amber - a Michelin guide 2 star restaurant
We dined at Amber before Michelin results went public on December 5.
Amber was located at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental hotel. It wasn't a large room, but with amazing art deco. There were 3,000 steel pipes hung from the ceiling.
Chef Richard Ekkebus specialized in French modern cuisine. His signature creations included "Dungeness Crab in 5 Textures and 4 Temperatures", "Langoustine with Iberian Pork Belly" and "Tasmanian Salmon with Kyuri Cucumber".
Since we were at Amber for lunch, we decided to try its 3-course lunch menu - appertizer, main course, and of course, dessert buffet.
Joshua had his own chicken nuggets lunch with smoked salmon as starter.
Amber was the only restaurant I knew of that had a chocolate sommelier. She could recommend the best chocolate or blend for your palate.
Honestly, the service was superb, the food, in my opinion, wasn't even comparable to Nobu (by the way, neither Nobu or Spoon made to the Michelin star). Chez TJ (1 star) in Mountain View had better creation and taste than Amber. Maybe it was because we were having lunch instead of usually better planned and created dinner dishes.
